Combining tribal wisdom with a modern twist

The COLLECTION: MAWATA-HILLTRIBE Bumble Jacket from The Mae Fah Luang Foundation has earned DEmark award for outstanding product design. The inspiration came from the vast indigenous wisdom found in the traditional dress of the ethnic minority hill tribes in the Doi Tung area combined with functionality of modern-day lifestyle that can be worn every day.

“The dress of the hill tribes has a unique way of folding and stitching pieces of fabric  together resulting in a Zero Waste production process. This is the main inspiration of this collection”, says Dr. Kris Yensudchai, the designer of this collection.

Utilizing multi layers of the hilltribe’s handwoven fabric to create jacket that can withstand cold temperatures down to 10 degrees Celsius.

“The highlight of the collection is the use of Thai handwoven fabrics and textiles designed to withstand the cold”, says Dr. Kris Yensudchai.

This is the 2nd collection by Dr. Kris that earned the DEmark award after he received an award in the Fashion & Apparel category for the Mae Fah Luang s/s18 collection, a summer clothing collection in 2018.
